  • The following winds provide cooling: Bura/Bora, Jugo/Scirocco and Meastral/Mistral
  • The average water temperature in summer is 24 °C, but can rise to 26 °C
  • The bathing season lasts from the beginning of May to the end of September
  • The average air temperature in summer is around 26 °C, but can be as high as 38 °C

Nature

  • Croatia has 11 protected nature parks, 8 national parks and 2 nature reserves – that’s about 10% of Croatia!
  • Croatia not only has a beautiful coastline with turquoise blue water – away from the coast, sparkling lakes and rushing waterfalls lie in the hinterland in a magical world. The largest are: Vransko jezero (30.7 km²), Dubravsko jezero (17.1 km²), Peruća Lake (13 km²), Prokljansko jezero (11.1 km²) – the most famous lakes are the Plitvice Lakes located in the national park of the same name (location of the famous Winnetou films)

Economic

  • Croatia has been a member of the EU since 2013. Therefore, the acquisition of ownership, as well as other legal transactions, are very secure
  • Croatia’s infrastructure is improving rapidly and is now at a good level

Fun facts

  • Croatia invented the tie
  • There are even Croats on the moon. The names of two Croatians were recorded on the map of the moon – scientists J. R. Boskovic and A. Mohorovicic

  • Who said that the ancient Slavs couldn’t write? …Croats used their own Glagolitic script, which is actually the oldest Slavic script

  • The Croatian currency is called Kuna (German: Marder) because trappers used to trade in marten fur
  • Croatia is home to the smallest town in the world called “Hum”
  • Croatia is not a big country. Croatia is the 127th country. largest country in the world

  • Even the ancient Egyptians loved this part of the world. The Sphinx in Split was brought from Egypt for Emperor Diocletian and is 4000 years old

  • The best sunset on earth: Alfred Hitchcock said that the city of Zadar has the best sunset in the whole world!
  • Nikola Tesla is Croatian and comes from the village of Smiljan
  • The torpedo is Croatian: the first torpedo was designed by Ivan Lupis Vikic from Rijeka
  • Giant truffles come from Croatia. Croatia is home to the world’s largest truffle

  • Croats have a truly rich world cultural heritage. Croatia has the highest number of UNESCO World Heritage items than any other European country

  • Moving beaches: The Golden Horn beach in Bol changes its shape and color depending on the wind
  • The pencil you are holding in your hand is Croatian: Croatian Slavoljub Penkala invented the mechanical pencil called Penkala in 1906. Nowadays we simply call it a “pen”
